Vicky

Vicky is the oldest show girl at Cari-On at the age of six years. A big thank you to my best friend,  Brenda Brookes for trusting us with this lovely lady, uh well .... sometimes she acts like a lady, well....when she's sleeping anyway! Most of the time she is busy keeping everyone here in line, at least she's keeping us busy. She knows she's cute and she doesn't mind telling us so!

Vickyshow2.jpg (41285 bytes)

Vicky made her debut the weekend of the Mt. Hood Keeshond Club Specialty 1999. Unfortunately, due to very bad timing on her mother's part, she was not old enough for the Specialty, but she made up for it the next day at the first all breed show of the weekend. Her first trip into the ring she came away with Winner's Bitch, Best of Winners and Best Opposite Sex over bitch Specials for a 4 point major! Thank you judge Shirley Uphouse! She has an absolutely "to-die-for" show temperament and a body to go with it.

Vicky picked up her second major her second weekend out. She traveled once again up to Washington for the Pacific Crest Keeshond Club Specialty where she went Best in Sweeps under judge Marlene Presser and Winners Bitch for a 5pt major under respected breeder/judge Joan Czarnyszka!

vickycansave.jpg (50213 bytes)

Then, on only her 3rd show weekend, seasoned air traveler, Vicky, decided to travel to her birth town of Ottawa, Canada for the 1999 Keeshond Club of Canada National Specialty and 3 all breed shows. At 8 months of age she showed her mother, Dancer, that she too had the right stuff. She went Winner's Bitch at all 4 shows and Best of Winner's 3 of the 4. Her lovely brother, Jigolo, was Winner's Dog at the National and Best of Winner's as well as Best Puppy in Group the last day as he started to get the hang of things! Vicky finished her Canadian Championship in one weekend with a 5 point major as well!

For her fourth show weekend, Vicky traveled to Phoenix for the November 1999 Sahuaro Keeshond Club Specialty. On Friday night at the Specialty she was Best of Opposite Sex in Sweeps as well as Best of Opposite Sex in the regular classes over 3 bitch Specials, including our own Toots, who went BOS at the National this past year and is now owned by Barbara Brown, for a 3 point major as well as picking up her first ever Hall of Fame point. The following day, at the all breed show, Vicky went Best of Winners for a 4 point major to finish her American Championship with 4 majors and 16 points!

So, at 10 months of age, Vicky becomes the youngest puppy at Cari-On Keeshonden to finish both American and Canadian Championships, and in only 4 weekends of showing.

Vicky's Specials career:

In Palm Springs Vicky celebrated her first weekend out as a Special where she went Best of Breed and made the cut in the Group!

She posed for some fun photos one weekend ... wanna see? These photos were done by Family Tree Imaging and they do a wonderful job.

In April she started blowing coat and was taken out of competition briefly to bring her lovely kennel mate, Paige, out. But a few short weeks later Vicky who had changed her mind about getting naked for the Summer was headed for the 2000 National in Beaverton, Oregon. At just 15 months of age she was eligible for Sweeps, Futurity and the Breed. More than 200 Keeshonds gathered at the Greenwood Inn to compete over 3 days of shows.

Vicky won her class in both Sweeps and Futurity winning enough money to pay for her plane flight home ... lucky thing, eh? Then at the Mt. Hood Keeshond Club Specialty she managed to receive an Award of Merit, one of 10 Keeshonden to do so. But that wasn't the end of it for our special girl. Vicky made Cari-On Kennels the proud recipient of the National Best of Opposite Sex award for the second year in a row and the first of the Millenium!

A big thanks to all the judges who have recognized Vicky's type and movement throughout the past 13 months and especially to breeder/judges Shirley Uphouse and Joan Czarnyska who recognized this puppy's potential from the very beginning! She now has 5 Hall of Fame points and it's only the beginning.

Vicky finished 2000 as the Number 18 Keeshond All Breed and Number 2 Keeshond female with Multiple Group Placements and Keeshond Club of America's Top Keeshond in 2000! In December 2000 she received her 7th Specialty Best of Opposite Sex for the year, quite an accomplishment. In January 2001 she continued her Specialty BOS wins by going BOS at the Southern California Keeshond Club Specialty for the second year in a row!

In early March 2001 Vicky picked up a Group IV to put her within 1 point of the 25 she needed to achieve her Hall of Fame. Then, the last weekend of March, she flew up to Alaska where she took a Group I under respected judge Dr. Harry Smith at the Tanana Valley Kennel Club to finish the requirements for her Hall of Fame in style! She is one of only a handful of bitches to do so and one of the youngest ever in breed history at just 26 months of age.

VickyNew Group4-4.jpg (50040 bytes)

Vicky turned 2 years old on January 17, 2001 and went in for hip x-rays. Her hips were rated OFA Excellent. She was bred last April to a lovely young male, Ch. MtKees Olefort Crunch. On June 15, 2001 she whelped six puppies, we kept one, Cari-On Beck 'N Call (BECKY).

The whelping of the litter was captured on video when Vicky was selected to be featured on an episode of their series called "That's My Baby!". The episode was aired several times and featured many of the local Southern California Keeshond breeders and exhibitors who all came for the puppies' coming out party at 8 weeks of age.

Thanks Brenda for this lovely, fun girl!

Vicky completed her Companion Dog title at the Nor-Cal Keeshond Club Specialty weekend 2004 going High In Trial! She also has her Canine Good Citizen title proving there are some brains to go along with all that beauty!

On December 31st, 2004, Vicky had a litter sired by Can Ch. Keeshee's Keesbrook Smokin'Gun (Dillon). It was quite a New Year's Eve party and we are extremely excited about the potential from this breeding. One lovely bitch puppy went to Steve and Paula Williams of Kuhl Keeshonden and we kept a bitch puppy we call Cari-On Gotta Have Faith (Faith). You can see pictures of Faith at 4 months.

****News Flash****

Vicky has been retired from breeding and will live a life of luxury ... gee, nothing's changed. She has been a wonderful show girl, great mother, and best of all, my best friend. I recently showed her at the Keeshond Club of Southern California Specialty as a veteran where she had the time of her life. She charged around the ring to the clapping of her many fans and you could see the joy she was having at remembering old times.

Salem taking a Group IV

Meet Salem, Vicky's half-sister! She's a little witch!

Salem comes to us from Paula Lewis-Taylor of Canada and is a Smokee x Carmen daughter. She's quite sound with lovely head up carriage, plenty of leg and attitude to boot!

Salem finished her Canadian Championship at the tender age of six months in one weekend when she traveled up to the Vancouver area for 2 Specialties and 3 All-Breed shows. Then she came home and started working on her American Championship. In 3 weekends of Keeshond Specialties she finished her American Championship undefeated from the puppy classes. It took only 5 shows to acquire 4 majors plus 2 points for a total of 16 points.

Salem took 2 Select Awards at the Specialties in conjunction with the National in Lawrence, Kansas. From there she went home with her new friend Donna Smith of Baronwood Keeshonden in Florissant, MO to be Specialed. She was expertly conditioned by Donna and matured nicely. By late 2001 and early 2002 she had picked up 3 Group IVs, a Group I, and has 2 Specialty BOSs!!!

In March 2002, at the Heart of America Keeshond Club Specialty, Salem pulled off the impossible! In very stiff competition Salem took the Specialty Best of Breed win under judge Mr. Robert Stein for two more Hall of Fame points!

Unbelievably, one week later Salem picked up another Group I in Tennessee!

From there her Specials career really got on a roll! She took a Select Award at the Keeshond Club of America National, completed her Hall of Fame requirements, and followed that up with yet another Group I, a Group II and a Group IV in back-to-back-to-back Group placements!!! Thanks to judges Mr. Robert Forsythe, Ms. Peggy Lloyd and Mr. Roy Prado for these wonderful wins. Thank you Donna and Salem for doing us proud in 2002... you go girls!!!

Salem continued her winning ways in 2003. At the Southern California Keeshond Club Specialty held in conjunction with the National, Salem took Best of Breed over some very tough competition. She followed it up at the National with a Best of Opposite Sex, giving us our third National BOS win in the last several years.

Later in 2003, Salem took Best In Show at the Leavenworth Kennel Club All-breed dog show in Kansas City, a 2,000+ dog entry, to become only the 9th bitch in the history of the breed to achieve a US Best in Show!!!!

Salem winning the Heart Of America Keeshond Club Specialty 2002

Unbelievably Salem has accomplished what only one other bitch in the history of the breed has ever done .... she finished #1 Keeshond All-Systems and won the Pedigree Award. We are so proud of her and very thankful to Donna Smith for handling her to this amazing pinnacle. She completed this very special award winning more Specialties than any other bitch in breed history! She truly is a very special bitch!

Salem was retired from show competition after Westminster 2004 where she went BOS. It was quite a ride Salem ... thank you!

****News Flash****

Salem has been retired from breeding but has re-entered the show ring. This time it is with a phenomenal new handler, a junior by the name of Kelli Denton. Together in their first year out they qualified for both Eukanuba and Westminster ... you go girls! At the Eukanuba shows it was evident to us that the two had formed quite a bond. It was then we agreed that Salem needed to become a permanent member of the Denton family and Kelli's dog. Watch for Salem and Kelli in a junior ring near you!

"REEFER"

Ch. Cari-On High Thymes

Meet Reefer, our newest home-bred champion.

Reefer is a Vicky son sired by Ch. Candray Thyme Out. In very limited showing Reefer picked up several points with our friend Donna Smith handling him. At the 2004 National Reefer made a nice showing, placing in each of his classes. Jean Leiker was sufficiently impressed to want to use Reefer for a litter she had planned and took him home to live with her for several months. His first litter is on the ground and we are looking forward to seeing his kids at the 2005 National.

Reefer came back home and took time to grow in his adult coat. We brought him back out at the So Cal Keeshond Club Specialty where he went Best of Winners for a 5 point major. He followed that up with another major win on the same weekend to finish his championship. He lost the major the middle day to his half-brother, Solo. So all in all it was a great weekend for Cari-On Keeshonden.

Reefer has been adopted by a loving family out in Riverside and lives a very happy and spoiled existence as a house dog now.

"BECKY"

Ch. Cari-On Beck 'N Call

Introducing Cari-On Beck 'N Call, aka Becky, Vicky's daughter! Shown here going Best in Sweepstakes at the Heart of America Keeshond Club Specialty under Joan Magliozzi. At 6 months of age Becky made her debut at the Palm Spring Kennel Club shows in January 2002, picking up a 3 point major her first trip into the ring. Her sire is Ch. MtKee Olefort Crunch, aka Crunchy, owned by Angela Perkins.

May 19th, 2002, at the Del Sur KC show, Becky is shown taking BOB from the puppy classes over a male Special and picking up her second major in the process!  Thank you Mr. Garren!

Becky did the Mission Circuit over Memorial Day weekend 2002 and had an incredible time. She won the breed from the 9-12 month Puppy class over 6 Specials for a 4 point major! Thank you Ms. Patterson. The next day she was BOS over a bitch special from the puppy class for another 4 point major to finish her championship at 11 months with 4 majors. Thank you Ms. Dalton (pictured below). We moved her up for the remaining two days and she managed BOS both days.

Below is a picture of Jasper, Becky's litter brother in North Carolina ... watch for him in the obedience ring. His owner's, Bruce and Janice Kincaid write:

"We thought we would send you a picture of our all neighborhood soccer star. Admittedly, he sometimes cheats and nips the ankle of anyone that tries to kick the ball away, but the kids all love him anyway"

Another litter brother, Ch. Cari-On The Magician (Magic) finished his championship in 2004. He lives with Jan and Dale Nussdorfer in New Mexico.

Litter sister Misty lives a rather spoiled existence with Lavon and Jim DeGraw here is Southern California and regularly shops at Fashion Island Mall in Newport Beach. Christmas is her favorite time of year and we always get a lovely Christmas card from her. Here she is pictured getting ready for the holiday 2004 toast .... cheers!

Hey mom, dad, what did you do with the Mistletoe? I want to give everyone Christmas kisses! Or is that Kees-es?

Meet Keeshee's Candide, co-owned with Irene and Nob Hadeishi. Candide means pure of heart, all that is good, and this little guy really is!

He, like Salem, comes from Paula Lewis of Keeshee Keeshonden in Holland Landing, Ontario Canada and is sired by Vicky's litter brother Jigolo.  His mother is Salem's mother, Carmen! Pictured here at 15 weeks he looks as sweet and pure as his name implies.

Candide_6mo.jpg (75628 bytes)

Keeshee's Candide is shown here at 6 months of age. He made his debut in the show ring at the Sahuaro Keeshond Club Specialty. He went Best In Sweepstakes!

At the Palm Springs Kennel Club shows held January 5th and 6th, 2002, at 7 months, Candide picked up back-to-back Majors by going WD/BOW!

At the Keeshond Club of America National, Candide placed in all of his classes, quite an accomplishment!!! At Lake Mathews All-breed 2002 show, judge Mr. Joe Walton awarded him WD/BOW to complete his championship with 15 points including 4 majors! Congratulations Nob and Irene!

Candide continues to be shown as a Special by Nob Hadeishi and has picked up several Best of Breed wins and Group placements.

"SOLO"

Ch. Cari-On Flying Solo

Meet Solo, our lovely home-bred boy out of Vicky sired by Mover, (Ch. Ashbrook's All The Right Moves, HOF). Solo is pictured here at 7 months picking up his first major at the Orange Empire all-breed show in conjunction with the 2005 Keeshond Club of Southern California Specialty where he went Best In Specialty Sweepstakes!

Right now he's taking time off to grow up a bit but should be coming back out Spring 2006. He is a real sweetheart and just loves people and gives great kisses. He has great bone, lovely color and as you can see he got his mother's lovely head.

****News Flash****

Solo came back out and finished his championship easily. As is often the case at Cari-On, we find that we just can't keep every nice dog that comes along. We feel it is best for them to get their very own loving family, especially when they deserve it as much as Solo does. Solo now lives with the Dillenbeck family in Southern California where he has another canine buddy and a lot of room to run and smell the roses.
