Allergy testing is time consuming and as we have busy schedules we
cannot offer allergy testing all year round. It is not unusual for us to
receive 10-20 inquiries a month on kitten availability from allergy
sufferers. We simply can not accommodate everyone. If we have a litter
planned, we will offer allergy testing to individuals who are seriously
considering purchasing a kitten from us. As test results vary according
to the individual cat's allergy levels we will not perform allergy tests
for individuals wishing to adopt from another breeder. If you wish to
adopt from elsewhere, we advise that you visit that breeder and meet the
cats from which you will have a kitten.
In fairness to you, your family,
and the kitten, we will not ship a kitten to an individual or family
with allergies that has not first visited our cattery in person to test.
Siberian kittens need to be handled and loved by all members of the
family. A kitten that does not receive this necessary attention will
likely become depressed and not do well as a new family member under
these conditions. Please do the right thing, honestly represent your
special needs or concerns to your breeder, and do what is best for any
pet you might be considering for your next companion. Kittens and
puppies typically form their closest bonds with humans during weeks 7
through 20. If you adopt a pet during this time period .... and you
should, if it turns out that due to your allergies, or some other
condition that prevents you from forming that bond, you may well have
also taken away that pet's ability to ever fully realize that special
human-animal bond with anyone else. The stresses on a young animal that
go along with each change of environment can have life-long negative
effects.
If you are interested in purchasing one of our kittens
and need to arrange for allergy testing, E-mail or call us at
310-323-1292 to book an allergy test visit with us. In this visit you
will meet either the mother of the planned litter, or if she is
pregnant, one of our other Siberians. You will be asked to hold the cats
and put your face in their fur. Please note, when our girls are pregnant
we do not allow visitors to touch them. We don't want to risk them
catching any bugs that may affect their pregnancy. As our cats have free
run of our home, during your visit you can be certain that you will
encounter the mother's Fel d1 and thus even if you cannot hold the
mother of the litter, you should get an accurate result.
Please allow one hour for an allergy visit. If you are
going to react, you will probably do so in the first 20-30 minutes. We
recommend you watch for allergic reaction over the next few hours after
your visit as allergic reactions can sometimes take longer to develop.
We do charge for our allergy
testing procedures. These fees are due and payable in cash during your
visit. We do not accept checks for allergy testing. Our fees are as
follows:
• 1 hour allergy test visit- $50.
If you go on to adopt a kitten from us, $30 of this fee will be
deducted from the purchase price of your kitten.
If you do visit us to test your
allergies,
1) you will need to not
take any allergy medications for 36 hours prior to your visit;
2) you will be required not
to visit other catteries or pet any other cats for 2 weeks prior;
3) you will need to wear freshly
laundered clothes; and
4) use a hand sanitizer upon
arrival.
These strict rules are necessary to
ensure we can provide accurate testing and most importantly, healthy
kittens for you to adopt!
Please note, as we are a small
breeder and only have one or two litters per year we cannot guarantee
you a kitten even if you react favorably to our allergy test. However,
people who have successfully allergy tested with us will have first
priority when we do have a kitten available. |
